2010 is quickly winding down...and I've been reflecting on our first full year back in Indiana. I am thankful we are here and feel fortunate that life has been so good to us.
I started this blog several years ago when I was in Minnesota. Basically it was an easy way to keep in touch with friends & family. I had just graduated from the MySpace phase and wasn't a fan of Facebook (I'm still not, which is why I won't participate in the madness)...so I ended up with a BLOG.
Not only has my physical location changed since Minnesota - but my life is in a different place. I have learned to appreciate even the smallest and simplest things in life. I have learned that it is nice to have a person to share your life with, minus all the drama and bullshit most relationships bring. I have learned that no matter how big or small, new or old, your home is - it is what YOU make it. I have also learned that jobs are more than just paychecks - you have to enjoy what you do and be good at it.
It hasn't been the easiest year. I started out working 65-70 hours a week for four months straight, battled some health issues with my thyroid and then lost one of the most important people in my life shortly thereafter. For the first five months of 2010, I felt like I couldn't catch a break...
It took a few months to bounce back. My work schedule significantly evened out and I was back to a normal 40 hour work week. We were able to get out and enjoy some beautiful Indianapolis weather & experience some new events. My thyroid medicine really started to kick in, and my level of energy was higher. We also started looking for a new place to live and were fortunate enough to meet a guy by the name of Dan, who led us to our current home which we have really enjoyed.
By August, I really started to feel like we were in a better place and 2010 didn't look as bad as it had started! My main goal has been to lead a healthier and more well-balanced lifestyle. I was never a big drinker or smoker - but we were all 21 once - and MOST of us have tried one or the other. I am proud to say I haven't touched a drop of alcohol since July and have no desire to (I can't even remember the last time I smoked, but it's been over a year). I have changed my eating style for the most part - cutting out alot of sodium, caffeine and refined sugars. I have actually made it a point to follow up on things that I would normally have pushed to the bottom of my to-do list. I have taken better care of my health, and feel 100% better than this time last year.
No, I'm not saying my life is perfect. I don't live in a false reality that everything will always be planned out and just the way I want it. I do feel that people lack the courage or strength to know they control their own destiny - and I am making steps towards doing that everyday.
Thank you for everyone who reads my blog...even when it's just a Zoey update or a weekend adventure we are going on. I really keep this as a journal for myself since I'm not a scrapbooker or diary writer...I like to REFLECT on my life. :)
